Really hard few days, trying to get caught up after "retreat" weekend. Now deep in a painful writing task I wish I didn't have to do.

Spring break began yesterday. And not a moment too soon. Trying to remember what my book project is about again.
Why is it that my students seem to forget everything they know about paper writing when they start writing a thesis?

Have the feeling that folks focusing on Michigan's shift to mostly-digital publishing are missing the bigger story...
Shift in format is less important than press being freed from bottom-line orientation. Press now free to experiment with form: that's key.

Thus far, most experimentation I've liked has been outside uni press structure. Wark's Gamer Theory is key model.
Or alongside: Wardrip-Fruin, Expressive Processing. I hope more such experiments \(esp\. ones that seem strange and scary\!\) are forthcoming.

Having to stay within a budget is a pretty different thing from having to recover costs; could produce braver choices.
Day 5 of full-time glasses wear. The first day that the weight of them has annoyed me. Also the first day of teaching in them. Related?

Not for nothing, but the conference in question has a website - on which all information is posted in .doc files. A website you download.
The punchline is that my panel is on digital scholarship. Ba-dum-bum.
