Trying to decide whether I want to spend my birthday on planes or in a country where I know no one. This is not the most ideal choice.

My sense? OA, yes. Author-pays, no. Publishing must be paid for, but not enough research is grant-funded.
@brettbobley @dancohen The majority of labor that goes into academic journals is un- or under-paid. What if \(1\) we took that labor back?...

It's a conference with ~15K attendees annually, so there are serious limitations on venue already \(don't get me started on those\).

I took the day off on Tuesday. This is worth announcing because I think it's the first full day off I've taken in a couple of months.
Result: weirdly disoriented yesterday. But insanely productive today. Maybe I should look into some kind of weekly downtime or something.
