Not really, no, but WP does allow for not-logged-in commenting.
The primary benefits of Disqus commenting seem to me to be for commenters: linking all comments across Disqus-enabled sites.

The French podcast I'm listening to has the funkiest accent. All my classes were obsessively Parisian; my bet is these folks are Canadian.
There's a flatness to the accent that sounds North American to me. They could be fluent USians; hard to say.
