There are a select few books that have had actual cognitive effects on the way I see the world.

I am 100% with you. Not a fan overall, but that book really messed with my head.
Another in that category: Pynchon’s V. These books \(sometimes briefly; sometimes durably\) changed my sense of the mechanics of the universe.
Others gradually coming to mind: Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia.
It’s not for nothing that all of these are in varying ways about time, and how time affects who we are, or can be.
