This has managed to be a whole week of Are You Effing Kidding Me,.

Yes, it’s only Thursday afternoon. We got a whole week of it into three and a half days.

Not at all. Back in February, I was all “once I’m fully vaccinated I can…” and so plans could be made. Last week someone asked me about Thanksgiving and I’m all 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is heartbreaking. And devastating to consider the number of people today who are so deeply solipsistic that they won’t even do the absolute minimum necessary to protect others. https://twitter.com/CRBerginMD/status/1423899543721058304

I often get asked to speak or write about why the university should focus on open infrastructure development. From now on, I think I’m just going to point everyone to @boone: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o-5R4a156hA&feature=youtu.be

I always knew that guy was smart. But it’s amazing to hear him lay it out like this.

I certainly hope so.

I’ve said several times that I want to take a sabbatical to focus on reading. But here’s the more specific thing I think I mean: I want to put every sense of productivity down for a while and just read without any goals involved.

Sun Aug 08 15:54:16 +0000 2021

Replying to @kfitz

I don’t want to read for research. I don’t want to read to assess or evaluate. I just want to read to read.

Sun Aug 08 15:54:29 +0000 2021

Replying to @kfitz

And I think behind that is the enormity of all of our exhaustion right now. I want time without projects. Time just to absorb and recharge without feeling like something has to come out of it.

Sara Ahmed’s on my want-to-read list, too, along with a bunch of Lauren Berlant and Sianne Ngai and Maggie Nelson. All of which I’ve been putting off because it wasn’t *for* something, which is sad. It’s just for itself, which is all I want.

You know, when our dumpster fire of an interim president resentfully submitted his two weeks notice, the board of trustees accepted the letter of resignation but made it effective immediately. Just saying.

Ida turned just a hair to the east late last night, so the storm didn’t pass directly over BR. And being to the west of center, BR caught the “clean” side, after the storm’s counter-clockwise spin dumped most of the wind and rain.

Mon Aug 30 19:52:42 +0000 2021

My parents live in Baton Rouge, about 80 miles WNW of New Orleans. I finally heard from them a little while ago — they’re safe, operating on generator power, with only spotty cell/phone service.

NOLA and surrounding parishes caught the “dirty” side of the storm, being east of center. I’m praying for all my friends and family there — because if my mother’s Ida was the scariest storm ever, I cannot imagine what they experienced.
