I got to attend a workshop in Berlin last month. Everyone was vaccinated, and the organizers gave everyone home tests to do each day. I mentioned sometime back that I started swimming — really swimming, laps and laps — for the first time in my life this summer. I’m slow, and will always be slow, but I’ve gotten modestly less slow over time. +

I hope that you do get back to swimming — it’s been a real sanity saver for me, in addition to the physical benefits. The pool is the one place where I can really leave everything else behind and just be.
It only just hit me, when I was asked to log in to a new administrative system I’m likely to spend hours on here on campus and it offered me “dark mode,” that dark mode is not a fucking feature. It’s a means to keep you working past optical capacity.
